Invisible Me
You looked at me today, but did not see
The warmth and beauty that beats within me.
You smiled, spoke, and made polite conversation...
But little do you know
The depths of wisdom, the vision,
or the momentous revelations
That I am capable of delivering.
Too bad, you did not see me!
So often you pass me by
without even so much as "hello"!
And if you should glance my way
I can see in your eyes
that you have already resolved
That something about me does not match
That fantasy you think a woman ought be.
You failed to see even a tiny morsel of the woman in me!
Is it my size that troubles you?
Is it the texture of my hair,
Perhaps it's my color that is too dark or too fair?
Even the fact that my eyes are brown instead of blue
can discourage you.
And because of all the outward things you seek -
You miss the most incredible part of me ...
You have failed to see the woman inside of me!
