I was raised by a lesbian, and I can speak with authority on one
of the most important dilemmas Americans will face and be accountable for in the twenty first century. If gays and lesbians
have the legal right to adopt and form family units, what effects will homosexuality have on their children?
...Please understand that my purpose in writing this book is not to infer that all homosexual men and women rear
their children in the same manner I was raised.
...The sole purpose in telling my story is to shed light on
the plight of children who are raised in gay or lesbian homes. What do children feel when they see mommy and mommy kissing,
or daddy and daddy coming out of the bedroom hugging each other when their friends are visiting?
...This topic has never oficially been discussed and stories
such as mine, to my knowledge, have never been published. The truth is, very few outsiders really know what goes on
behind closed doors in these "different" households. Does congress, or anyone else making legal decisions, ever investigate
the hardships and mental anguish suffered by the children? ....
...I grew up afraid that one day I would turn into a lesbian.
Why? It seemed all the neighborhood kids and their mothers expected me to end up like my mother and they kept telling
me so. The amount of anger I built up towards Dorothy was immeasurable. All I ever really wanted was a mom
to whom I could talk and a mother who would be like the other moms....
